Text: Galatians 5:22-23
Memory Verse: Philippians 2:5
Let this mind be in you, which was in Christ Jesus.
INTRODUCTION: You were created to become like Christ. From the beginning, God’s plan has been to make you like his Son, Jesus. In all creation, only human beings are made “in God’s image”. This is a great privilege and gives us dignity.
God’s ultimate goal for your life on earth is not comfort but character development. He wants you to grow spiritually and become like Christ. Christ-likeness is all about transforming your character, not your personality.
DISCUSSION
More things I have become in Christ:
Peacemaker: In Christ we become peacemakers. Peace is one of the things we enjoy when we are in Christ and He also wants us to give it to everyone around us. (Hebrews 12:14; Matthew 5:9)
We are Intellectual: When we become like Christ, we can think, reason, and solve problems like Him. (Genesis 2:19-20)
We Have a Moral Consciousness: The image of Christ in us, enables us to have a moral consciousness. We can discern right from wrong, which makes us accountable to God. (Ephesians 4:22-24)
REVIEW QUESTION
What are some of the attributes of Christ we need? (Galatians 5:22)
CONCLUSION
God gives us our time on earth to build and strengthen our character for heaven.
You’re not going to take your career into heaven; you’re going to take your character.
It is the Holy Spirit’s job to produce Christ-like character in you.
The process of changing us to be like Christ is achieved through sanctification.
