Text: James 1:12-15
Memory Verse: Matthew 5:290
If your right eye causes you to sin pluck it out and cast it from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish that for your whole body be cast into hell.
INTRODUCTION
Every human being has some some weaknesses and we do not have the strength. So, it is necessary for us to be responsible by setting out some boundaries that can help us handle our weaknesses. Some of our weaknesses are sex, stealing, lying, mercilessness, anger, backbiting, et cetera.
DISCUSSION
How do we maintain self-control?
Discipline: We must bring our flesh to subjection., in other words, we must not allow our flesh to dictate what we should do. (Romans 6:19; 7:23)
Listen Always to Your Conscience: We should learn to always listen to our conscience and also obey it. Our conscience is the spirit of God in us tells us what is good or bad. (Romans 9:1; John 8:9)
Avoid Worldly Gathering: Who we associate with also influences our decisions and actions. We should try and avoid worldly gathering which may influence us negatively. (James 1:12-15)
REVIEW QUESTION
What does the Bible warn us against? (1 Corinthians 6:18-19)
CONCLUSION
Personal discipline is not a hard task but it is simply all about being determined to take control of one's urges and intentions. It may create some discomforts but is possible.
