Introduction:

As humans, we are wired to seek pleasure, and as Christians, we are not exempt from this natural inclination. However, the Bible teaches us that there are two types of pleasures: good and evil. This article discusses how to discern and pursue good pleasures that align with God's will, while avoiding evil pleasures that can lead us astray.

The Duality of Pleasures:

The Bible highlights the existence of both good and evil pleasures (1 Timothy 6:10, Hebrews 11:25). Evil pleasures, such as stealing, malice, and gluttony, are morally wrong and can lead to destructive behaviors. On the other hand, good pleasures, like caring for the sick, rescuing the oppressed, and winning souls for God's kingdom, bring joy and fulfillment while aligning with God's values.

Discerning Good Pleasures:

So, how do we distinguish between good and evil pleasures? Here are some guidelines:

1. Aligns with God's Word: Good pleasures should align with biblical principles and values (Psalm 119:103).

2. Brings Joy and Fulfillment: Good pleasures bring a sense of joy and fulfillment that doesn't harm others or ourselves (John 15:11).

3. Contributes to the Greater Good: Good pleasures often benefit others and contribute to the greater good (Acts 20:35).

4. Glorifies God: Good pleasures should ultimately glorify God and reflect His character (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Pursuing Pure Bliss:

To experience pure bliss, we must:

1. Seek God's Guidance: Ask God to guide you in discerning good pleasures (Psalm 25:4-5).

2. Prioritize Spiritual Growth: Focus on spiritual growth and development (2 Peter 3:18).

3. Surround Yourself with Good Influences: Spend time with people who encourage and support your pursuit of good pleasures (Proverbs 13:20).

4. Practice Self-Control: Resist evil pleasures and practice self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

Conclusion:

Pure bliss is within our reach when we discern and pursue good pleasures that align with God's will. By seeking God's guidance, prioritizing spiritual growth, surrounding ourselves with good influences, and practicing self-control, we can experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from living a life pleasing to God.
