ONE THING IS NEEDFUL

LUKE 10:38-42

" BUT ONE THING IS NEEDFUL..."(LUKE 10:42A)

Our text today shows two sisters; Martha and Mary who received Jesus into their home. Jesus was an important guest and so Martha was busy attending to His needs. The bible describes it this way " But Martha was encumbered about much serving....". So encumbered that she was not even available to receive the package the Lord had come into her home with. Mary on the other hand, was available and Jesus was pleased with that. Even though there was nothing wrong with serving an important guest, everything is not right when you miss out on the benefits of the meeting. Jesus said "Martha ...., thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

Are you so encumbered with many things in the church, family, office, business that you are losing sight of the most important thing?

David recognized it in Psalm 27:4, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple”. Jesus taught it in Matthew 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”. Mary chose it in LUKE 10:42B, "... Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

What about you? Do you serve like Martha and forget to sit at the feet of Jesus? Service in God's house is good but never allow it to take the place of personal fellowship with the Lord Jesus. It is not wrong to seek good things but seek one thing above all - TO LIVE IN GOD'S PRESENCE.

Choose the good part which cannot be taken away from you. Have personal fellowship with Jesus daily.
