Text: John 13:12-15
Memory Verse: Colossians 3:23
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as to the Lord and not unto men.
INTRODUCTION
Part of the life of the Christian faith is the life of service. We are like our father who gave his son for service. (Matthew 20:28) Service for the believers is giving that which we have freely received. This includes our gift, talent, skills etc. It may begin at home, in the church but it should not end at home or in the church or in the office. It is all about solving other problems and representing God wherever you find yourself.
DISCUSSION
What are the characteristics of service?
Service is an Act of Faith: The believer’s service begins from understanding what God had done and accepting it by faith. Then, we can offer service that is pleasing to God. (John 6:29)
Understand Your Gift: Service becomes possible when you recognize that you have something to give. Every believer has received something from the Lord. Therefore, we all have something to give. Except you recognize this fact you cannot consider giving. (Matthew 25:15; 13:12; 10:8)
Service Should Be Sincere: Our service, wherever we find ourselves must be done sincerely. We should offer service as to please God and not looking to man. (Colossians 3:23)
REVIEW QUESTION
What will make you not to serve? (Matthew 13:12)
CONCLUSION
The culture of service is a lifestyle. Service is giving that which you have freely received.
